If you believe your records request denial is unjust, please reach out to the Records Manager for help.

You also have the right to file a complaint against the department in the Court of Claims or initiate a mandamus lawsuit:

Court of Claims

• Submit a claim form along with a copy of your original request.
• If mediation does not resolve the issue a special master will oversee the dispute.

Mandamus Lawsuit

• The responsibility to prove the case lies with the individual who made the initial complaint.
• If the public office is found to be violating public record laws, it will be compelled to provide the requested records and may also be accountable for court costs and potential fines.
